I'm itching to get started on my next project: Phantom. But I'm making myself wait until October. As much as I want to buckle down and plan, I feel like I should let my brain rest a little from writing. I'm always amazed by how much good can come from breaks.
My main character is starting to take shape, though. An eighteen-year-old girl with a fiery personality. Not at all like Christine. (I always thought she was a bit of a wuss in the book.)
Waiting is tough. I focus on querying agents instead. And reading. Always lots of reading.
Which reminds me... look me up on Goodreads.com. It's a great website. You can use it to see what I'm currently reading. (Okay, I'll tell you. I'm reading The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. It's fantastic.) I use Goodreads to keep track of my to-read list (which is constantly growing).
What are you reading?

Currently I am reading: "Writing Down the Bones" by Natalie Goldberg which is my weapon for writers block! I loved the bit about timed writing...
"Relentless" by Dean Koontz. He tends to mix genres writing horror/romance/supernatural/suspense kind of stuff. One of my inspirations to keep writing was him.
Holly Lisle's "Sympathy for the Devil". I started reading it a while back, but got sidetracked, so I want to start this one again.
Usually I'm reading quite a bit more...but i'm in the middle of writing so I don't want to overload myself on fiction.
Natalie Goldberg rocks! I love everything I've read of hers, and yes, it is awesome for writer's block! It makes you itch to write!
What am I reading? A book called "Wolf Tower," part of my read more YA plan...I do not like it. Going back to the library on Wednesday...
Also reading Amy Tan's "The Opposite of Fate". I love Amy Tan, and this book is sort of a memoir...interesting.
Yup, when I read Natalie Goldberg it helped me write on a regular basis, and is part of the reason I'm working on a project now.
Are you reading more YA because you are writing YA? My project is YA...so I started bringing home piles of YA novels from the library.
I read YA for the same reason I write it--I prefer it.
The Percy Jackson series is the best I've found in a long time (though technically, it's middle grade.)
Gail Carson Levine's Ella Enchanted is my favorite book. She has a great strong female character with an amazing voice. Seriously, I can't rave enough about that book.
Emily,
I LOVE all of Gail Carson Levine's books! If I wrote fantasy, I'd want to write like her! Sadly, I don't think I have the imagination, or the talent for that matter, to write it.
Margaret Peterson Haddix is my favorite so far. The Shadow Children Books rocked me.
I actually have read much more Adult novels than YA, which is odd considering some people still consider me to be teenager even though I'm nineteen and married.
When I signed up for HtTS (I'm wildhear90 by the way) the project I'm writing came by accident. I was Calling Down Lightening and it just hit me. I knew as soon as it came to me it was the idea I'd persue!
